Obituary
Barbara Lorraine Abbey (Molander) , known to many as Mama, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2019 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. Lorraine was born on April 12, 1938 in Creston, BC but spent most of her life in Cranbrook. She was well known to many for her Abbey’s best canning, 38 years of nursing at St. Eugene Hospital and later the extended care facility in the Cranbrook Hospital. She was also a member of many groups including the F.O.E. for over 60 years, her “Old Fossils” and caregivers group.
Lorraine married the love of her life, Walter Abbey in 1962 and together they raised four children; Wendy (Lowell) Skjonsby, Judy (Bruce) Mace, Jacqueline Abbey and Don (Tania) Abbey.
Lorraine loved her family dearly and treasured her six grandchildren Jason (Janice) Mace, Kevin (Dawn) Mace, Lindsay (Cody) Roberts, Tommy (Danika) Chappell, Jordan (Mandy) Lydell and Jenna Abbey. She was then blessed with eight great grandchildren; Alora, Kelton, Spencer, Brody, Lenon, Thomias, Emma and Colby. And her precious fur baby, Lily. Lorraine was also blessed to have several long- time friends who loved her dearly. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Fritz and Beryl Molander and daughter, Jacqueline Ann Abbey.
A Celebration of Lorraine’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Eagles Hall in Cranbrook. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Lorraine’s memory to the SPCA, Ginger’s Legacy or Cranbrook & District Search and Rescue.
