Tom Tesarski
It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Tesarski shares the news of his passing on Monday, December 31, 2018 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit with his granddaughter Candy by his side. Tom was born on the homestead farm in the R.M. of Strathclair on August 31, 1924. He was the 7th of 9 children born to Katherina (Kiez) and Anton Tesarski. Tom grew up and lived on the farm while attending Braddock, Shoal Lake and Elphinstone Schools. After graduation he joined the army. He finished his training and was waiting deployment when WWII ended. He went on to pursue his career in teaching, receiving his 1st class Teacher’s Certificate on June 20, 1947. He received his Professional 1st class certificate September 28, 1950, Principal’s certificate (one room schools) February 5, 1951, Professional 1st class Grade A certificate October 7, 1959, Interim Collegiate Certificate August 16, 1965, Dept. of Education College Certificate September 24, 1965 and December 12, 1966, Department of Education Principal Certificate October 13, 1965 and December 12, 1966, University of MB Bachelor of Science and Education October 18, 1966 and U of M Degree of Master of Education October 19, 1972. His Manitoba teaching career started in Purvis, and continued on to Dand, Mather, Kenton, Morden and Reston. In 1979, he retired and moved to Brandon where he later taught Math, Physics and Chemistry for 15 years at the Brandon University. On October 1, 1979 Tom received his Insurance Agent’s License. He was employed by McQueen’s from Saskatoon during the summer months off, selling and adjusting crop insurance from 1979 until 2003. Tom was an active member of the Brandon Lions Club while living in Brandon; he was a past president and secretary. He was an avid fast ball player starting in elementary school and continuing through his university years. He was well known for his very fast pitching abilities and was nicknamed “Chuck” by his classmates. Tom had a strong interest in badminton and coached his high school students for many years. He always had a love of music and taught himself to play the guitar and entertained his grandchildren and great grandchildren with the harmonica. In earlier years, he played at barn dances in a band with his brother. Tom is survived by his wife Olive of 69 years and his children Garry (Marlene), Charlotte (Rick), Curt (Janine), Shelly (Roger) and Brad (Kris). There are 12 grandchildren: Robyn (Tim), Tricia (Eric), Janey (Shawn), Melanie, Paul, Marc, Eric, Candy (Jeff), Nicholette (Jimmy), Zach (Ellisa), Emily and Olivia; 12 great grandchildren: Kyler, Lacey, Maddox, Holden, Emma, Kamara, Aileena, Finnley, Sierra, Zander, Ethan and Spencer. Tom is also survived by his brother Peter and sister Joyce (Draper), as well as a sister-in-law Julia Vodden. A private family Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held at a later date.
