RUTHERFORD, Lucy Ellen (Bemrose)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lucy,
in her 108th year, on January 11th, 2019, at Hilltop Manor, Cambridge.
Beloved wife of the late George A. Rutherford (1998). Loving mother of
Bob (Peggy) of Cambridge, proud grandmother to Lynne (Matt) Veugen,
and the late Craig Rutherford (2016), devoted great grandmother to
Jocelyn and A.J. Veugen of New Hamburg. Also, survived by nieces and
nephews across Canada.
Predeceased by her parents, Walter and Gertrude Bemrose of Paris, ON,
brother, Fred Bemrose (Jean) of Paris, ON, sister Gwenn Quackenbush
(Jack) of Halifax, NS, and sister Gladys Burley (Lloyd Dopson) of
Victoria, BC.
Born in Paris, Ontario on July 19th, 1911, she eventually became
employed as a dental hygienist for a Dr. McLaughlin, who must have
taught her well, as she maintained a full set of teeth throughout her
life. She will be remembered as a quiet, gentle, private and very
generous wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and homemaker, who always
placed the perceived needs of others above those of herself.
The family thanks the personal care staff at Riverbend Place for their
compassion and care over the last 8 ½ years, and most recently,
the personal care staff at Hilltop Manor for their compassion and care
over the last 3 months.
Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will
be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to Corbett Funeral Home in Cambridge. In
lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart
& Stroke Foundation.
