Obituary for Jane Classen (Petersen)
Jane Classen (Petersen) of Port Franks passed away peacefully at South Huron Hospital on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 in her 74th year. Born in South Africa, the devoted and loyal wife of Robert Classen for over 50 years, Jane found her greatest pride and joy in her family. She left a legacy in her children, Roberta Classen & Ed (Hamlyn), Trevor & Andrea Classen and Sara-Jane Classen, and Jane was able to celebrate and watch her grandchildren Jewel, Sam, Emberlee, Ethan, Ivy, Braylen and Ashton grow. Jane was treasured by her siblings Mark, his wife Ursula Petersen, Fareed Khan and many friends and extended family.
A content and humble woman who loved to sing and be involved in her community. Jane’s youth was marked by her athletic skills, and she was always a huge Blue Jays fan. Years later, Jane spent every morning walking the beach with her husband, collecting rocks and sea glass. A solid rock capsulized Jane’s life, not only did she see the beauty in the unique stones collected in locations along the roads, or farmer’s fields, later she would decorate their home and gardens with their treasures.
The matriarch of the family, Jane was full of character and endless stories as a quiet charitable woman, making sure items went to where they were needed. Jane took pride in a hard days work, loved a good cup of tea and was a motherly mentor to many as she cut loose with her goofy and fun loving spirit. Jane cannot be described without talking about food. The loved and coveted chef at MacPherson’s Resturant, Jane did not know how to cook a small meal and no one could leave her home or work place feeling hungry.
Family and friends of Jane continue to Celebrate Jane’s Life. A life of loving, adventures, strength and courage. A memorial will take place with details to follow. Donations are gratefully appreciated to the Contact House Food Bank, the Salvation Army or the Thedford Knox Presbyterian Church Benevolent Fund.
