Gwen Rhoda Tree March 16 1928 –December 23 2018

We wish to announce the peaceful passing of Gwen Rhoda Tree. She was a very brilliant and independent person. She spent many years of her life caring for her widowed mother in Ontario after her father was killed in World War II. She had one sister Ruth who predeceased her. When her mother passed, Gwen poured herself into supporting many charities including Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Pioneer Ranch Camp, Operation Eyesight and others.
Gwen was the first Police Woman with the Toronto Police Department, and later the Ontario Government requested her to head up their child probation work which she did very capably with her friend and assistant Shirley Farmer who is her very dear friend in St. Catharines, Ontario. After her retirement Gwen packed up her little car and came to Victoria in 1991 where she lived until her passing. Gwen loved to travel and spent many happy summers in “Cottage Country” in Ontario and travelled extensively in Canada, England, Scotland, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean.
We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Sunrise Assisted Living for their excellent support and professional care for Gwen over the past 17 years, and to Luella Hillmer who has been her caregiver and friend for many years.
At Gwen’s request there will be no funeral service in Victoria and her ashes will be sent to Christ Church Anglican Church in McNab where she will be buried with her mother. Condolences may be offered below.
