Donna’s Obituary
BENT, Donna Ruth ~ age 89, widow of George L. Bent of Clarence, recent resident of Grace Haven Home for Seniors, died on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton peacefully from failing health. Born in 1929, eldest daughter of the late Carroll and Ruth (Ells) Baker of Sheffield Mills, Kings County. Donna happily lived her early life there on a small farm. Her early school years were at “the Mills”; her high school years were at Kings County Academy in Kentville; with her teacher training at Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro. She was a “country school teacher” first in Melvern Square, then in Woodville. In 1950, she married George Bent of Forest Glade, and together they began the lengthy farming career they both so thoroughly enjoyed. Over the years, they acquired several farms in Forest Glade, Clarence and Middleton and developed one of Annapolis County’s larger dairy operations at that time. It made them very proud and happy to have their sons take over the ownership of Bent Farms in 1994. George and Donna were always involved and willing workers in their church, their community and agriculture organizations. Their home extended a warm welcome to family and friends and many young people remember happy experiences of work and fun on the farm. Donna is survived by daughter, Brenda; sons David (Pamela), farming near Middleton; and Allen (Jacqueline), farming in Clarence; ten beloved grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband George in 1996, her daughter Ruth in 2011 and her only sister Davelyn Burton, Ontario in 2000. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, February 5, 2019 with Rev. Sweis Ubels officiating in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. A private interment for family will be in the family plot along the river bank in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada, the Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church, Middleton or a charity of one’s choice.
