OBITUARY
Barry Merton Baxter

Our Dad, Barry Merton Baxter died peacefully at the Veterans Unit in Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton on January 2, 2019 with two of his daughters and a granddaughter by his side.
He was born to the late Arthur and Ella (Porter) Baxter in Danvers Digby Co. on September 14, 1923. He was one of seven children. He enlisted in the Air Force in September 1941 at the age of 18 years. In January 1942 he went overseas to help in World War II. In April of 1945 he Married, Maria Vos of Eindhoven, Holland. Together they had five children. When the war was over, he returned to Deep Brook and worked at the former CFB Cornwallis as a Transport Driver and for a time as a Fire Fighter but then he returned to driving as firefighting was not for him as he couldn’t sleep waiting for the alarm to ring!
Dad loved gardening and grew enough vegetables to provide produce for a multitude of people. He also loved hunting and fishing and his beloved rabbit hounds. At one time he enjoyed his trout fishing pond on his property. In the earlier years he and mom loved to take their trailer almost every week-end to meet up with their friends at Keji Park. They also loved to travel to Maine and go around the Cabot Trail. In the 1970’s he helped build Clementsport Legion Branch #122 where he was a member for over 50 years.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Maria and his siblings; Audrey, Lester, Ron, Jean and Fred.
Leaving to mourn is his sister, Marilyn in Lethbridge, Alberta. He is survived by his daughters, Betty (Glen Penney) Bridgewater; Deborah (Paul Aucoin – deceased); Digby, Heather (Rod Thibodeau) Yarmouth; Patty, Deep Brook and Son, Wayne (Lavern) Deep Brook.
