BALLEGEER, Audrey Marie (Winquist)
March 21, 1941 – January 14, 2019
Audrey was born to Youbou pioneer family Oscar and Agnes Winquist (both deceased) at King’s Daughter Hospital in Duncan on March 21, 1941. Audrey’s schooling was in Youbou and Lake Cowichan. On July 2, 1960 she married Henry Ballegeer, who survives her. She is also survived by her six children – Tony (Bev), Teri, Steve, Craig, Darryl (Tracy) and Mark (Candi), thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren – all of whom were her joys in life. She is also survived by her brother Robert in England; and many in-laws, and nieces and nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her brother Norman, in April 2013. After marriage, Audrey and Henry lived on Jordan’s Lane in Duncan until 1966 when they moved to Squamish. After six years there, they moved back to Vancouver Island and resided in Ladysmith until 1983 when they moved onto five acres in Cassidy.
Audrey enjoyed Country Music and for several years a summer Sunday afternoon was set aside for a “backyard country music jammin’ session”. Over the years approximately 125 friends and family (each year) attended these sessions.
Audrey worked for many years as the Secretary/Bookkeeper at St. Mary’s Parish in Ladysmith. The past years have been spent as the Volunteer Coordinator of the Ladysmith RCMP Community Policing Station and for several years she was on the Ladysmith Tour de Rock Fund Raising Committee.
Over the years Audrey kept in touch with schoolmates and several of them gathered 2 or 3 times a year to catch up with each other – over a 3 hour lunch!
At Audrey’s request a private family service will be held.
Bring your memories and music talents to a celebration of life to be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm at the Eagle’s hall in Ladysmith.
In lieu of flowers please remember Audrey by making a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Janeece Place.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Audrey M Ballegeer March 21 1941 January 14 2019 (age 77)..
