Zoe Stanidis
February 20, 1929 – December 30, 2018
Passed peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2018, two months before her 90th birthday. Born February 20, 1929 in Keli, Florina, Greece. Survived by beloved husband of almost 64 years, Charalambe (Bob). Cherished and loving mother of Ann (Dale) Crawford, Danny (Adele) and Fanny Stanidis. Dear and loving Baba to her “little birds”: David (Melissa), Lisa (Dave), Sofia, Marina (Valerie), Adrianna and Tomia (Patrick). She is survived by her siblings George (Fima), Stavros (Pida, deceased), Antigoni (George), Angelo (Metra), and Theodora (Tom). Also survived by brother-in-laws Steve and wife Mary, Paul (Evdoxia, deceased) and Metaxula (Thomasis, deceased). Survived by many other relatives including 33 nieces and nephews in Canada, Australia and in Greece. Predeceased by her parents Nikola and Tomia, dear brother Tom, infant daughter, 13 sister and brother in-laws (Peter and Andromahi with whom they shared their household in Greece) and 3 nieces and nephews.
She was an incredibly strong, kind, loving and hard-working woman who faced many hardships and was always guided by her strong faith. She was very talented at embroidery and weaving of blankets and rugs which were used her entire life. She also loved to knit, crochet and sew. Baba was an amazing storyteller of her family, farm life in northern Greece and surviving WWII and the difficult years after the war. She loved her family and her whole life was devoted to them.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Karen Chan and all the staff of Extendicare for their care and compassion, especially Kim who was with her at the end. Also want to thank Dr. Derrick Hunt and Dr. Allstair Ingram for their compassionate care over the years. And, good friends who supported them after arriving in Canada in 1964, Ted and Susan Marshall and Joe and Mary Attard.
Visitation will be held at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave., Hamilton E. on Wednesday, January 2nd from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral service will take place at Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, 233 East 15th St., Hamilton on Thursday, January 3rd at 11 a.m. with interment following in Woodland Cemetery.
Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Panagia Greek-Orthodox Church would be appreciated.
Baba, you will be “forever in our hearts and always in our thoughts.” God rest your soul.
