Obituary Overview
Yasuo Utsunomiya
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Yasuo Utsunomiya on March 20, 2018. He was 94 years old. He was a dedicated husband of 63 years, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He was predeceased by his wife Kimiko (Margaret), parents Genji and Kiwa, sisters Taye, Louise and brother Max.
He leaves behind his loving family, daughters Carol (Bill) and Terry (Tom), grandchildren Melanie (Dwayne), Chuck (Beth), Trevor and Tyra, great-grandchildren Quentin and Austin.
He is survived by a brother Ken (Kathy), sister Amy and nephews and nieces.
Dad was a gentle man and he will be remembered for his generosity, involvement in activities, his kind heart and his love of golf. He enjoyed photography, carving, bowling, curling and darts. He was an active member of the New Horizons Club in Gimli when he retired there in 1988.
His life began in Port Haney, B.C. His determination to provide for his family brought him to Winnipeg. He attended Red River College and received his certificate as a painter. He was then able to find employment at the Health Sciences Centre where he retired.
With his wife, he travelled from coast to coast to visit all the scenic areas of Canada and parts of the United States. He took many pictures of the mountains, oceans, beluga whales and even stopped to enjoy a little gambling in Vegas. But his love of golf brought him the most joy and he always looked forward to pie and coffee in the clubhouse.
A family funeral has been planned. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
His family is deeply grateful and we feel fortunate he received compassionate care at Betel Home in Gimli for the past seven and half years. We knew he had the caring staff who made sure all his needs were met.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Yasuo Utsunomiya 2018.source
