Obituary of William Firth
FIRTH, William George
On March 1st, 2018, in his 95th year with his loving family at his side, William Firth of the John Noble Home passed away peacefully to join his Saviour and Heavenly Family. He was the loving husband to the late Catherine Becket Groves (1997) and a dedicated father to Sheila (Gary) Mawson, Marilyn (Peter) Windle, Katherine (David) Wilson and William Firth Jr. (Margaret). He was predeceased by his precious son Jeffrey (1997). William will be sadly missed by his eight grandchildren Tim (Mel), Tanya (Craig), Mark (Kristina), Sue Anne (Jason) Joanna (Eugene), Christopher (Kelly), David (Emily) and Amanda (Darrell). William was blessed with ten great-grandchildren, Michael, Jake, Victoria, Josh, Brennen, Owen, Caitlin, Jaelyn, Zoey and Evan. He is survived by his loving sister Thora Rogers. William was predeceased by his father, mother, four brothers and three sisters, he will also be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews and friends. William Served in WWII with the Dufferin Haldimand Rifles and the Toronto Scottish. He retired from Hussmann Canada after 35 years of service. He became a Life Member of the Branch 90 Royal Canadian Legion in 1973 and received the Meritorious Medal after serving on many committees and working diligently to help other veterans. He also represented the mentally challenged children and adults in various sports through the legion. On Remembrance Day he was an active speaker for the Veterans at Tranquility Place, Telfer Place Retirement Community Centre and the John Noble Home and he spoke at many public schools throughout his life. In 2015 William received the 75th Year Victory Award as a WWII living veteran. We would like to thank Dr. J. Legere and the wonderful staff of the John Noble Home, especially Faye and Juliana, for their constant and dedicated care of our father. We always knew he was in qualified and loving hands. We would also like to thank Rev. Wayne Foster of Paris for his spiritual leadership over the years with both William and the family. Our appreciation is extended to the staff and many friends of Telfer Place Retirement Community Centre for making William part of their family. Thank you to Joseph Suppa and staff at Hill and Robinson Funeral Home and Cremation Centre for respectfully helping to honour Williams life. Many thanks to the Branch 90 Legion for their participation in the Celebration of Williams Life. Friends will be received at the HILL and ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION CENTRE 30 Nelson Street, on Tuesday, March 6th from 12-1 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. Donations to the John Noble Home, Community Living Brant or the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated.
