Obituary of Wilema Inkpen
Wilema “Alvena” Inkpen – September 16, 1927 – December 5, 2018 – of Kingston/Greenwich
Born in Middle Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Wilema (Chisholm) Blaikie. Alvena is survived by her sons Michael (Catherine Crook) Kingston, Stephen (Doris Blood) Middleton and daughter Rebecca (Tom Cleveland) Grafton; grandchildren Ryan (Charlotte) Blood, Halifax; Nathan Cleveland, Wolfville; Jennifer Cleveland, Dartmouth; sister, Dorothy Peach, Halifax. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gordon Willis Inkpen, sisters, Pauline McCulloch, Muriel Maxwell and step brother William Urquhart.
After graduation from Kay’s Beauty School in Kentville, she worked for Emilles Hair Dressing in Halifax where she met a young sailor, Gordon who changed her destiny; he left the Navy and they both relocated to Kingston where they spent their life together. She opened her own beauty salon in their home which she ran for 20+ years.
In her early years, Alvena loved to model, especially jewels and fur coats. She was one of the first graduates from the Home Nursing Program in 1963 from Middleton. She was an avid gardener and was a member of the Wilmot Garden Club where she organized many Garden Shows. She was a member of the Kingston United Church, a member of the Annavale and Mayflower Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No 2. She loved animals and always had the company of a loving four-legged friend.
There will be no funeral service, however a private family memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Alvena’s memory may be made to the SPCA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
