Wendell Matthew MacNeil
December 23, 1931 – December 25, 2018
MacNEIL, Wendell Matthew, age 87, of Halifax passed away peacefully on December 25, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at the QEII. Born in Halifax December 23, 1931 he was the son of the late Weldon and Winnifred (MacDonald) MacNeil. Wendell worked at Halifax Shipyards for 9 years and Drummond McCall (Russel Steel) for 30 years as a profile burner. He was a very friendly person who enjoyed people. He served the militia reserves in the Canadian Provost Corp and the 33rd Service Battalion for a total of 26 years rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and later serving as Captain of the 28th Halifax Rifle Cadets Corp, which time he treasured. His favourite pastimes also included camping trips with the family, bowling, darts, horseshoes, badminton, skating, dancing and playing cards. He was most proud of his family – 3 daughters, 1 son and 6 grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, of 63 years; daughters, Lynn (Larry MacCarthy), Judy (Hugh Morrison) and Paula; son, Wendell (Sharon Kenney); grandchildren, Neil Carr, Natalie and Christopher Kelly, and Morgan, Hannah and Wendell MacNeil; four great-grandchildren; niece, Deborah; nephews, Dennis, Shawn and Weldon. He is predeceased by twin brother Weldon (Winnifred) and Arnold (Effie). Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax Sunday December 30 from 2 -5pm. Funeral service will be held 11 am, Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, Robie Street, Halifax (communion service) Rev. Canon Charles Bull officiating. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church or charity of choice.
