Obituary Overview
Veronica Thompson
With broken hearts we have to say Good-Bye to our mother and grandmother, Veronica (Vera) Thompson. After an enjoyable afternoon Vera passed quietly and unexpectedly in her apartment at the Stonebridge Crossings Seniors Home in Saskatoon, SK on February 22, 2018.
Veronica was born in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England to Alfred and Isabella Baines on December 6, 1926. At age 15, Vera worked with her father making “firing pins” for the War effort. She met the love of her life Lorne while he was serving in the RCAF and they were married at Knaresborough on July 7, 1945. Becoming a war bride, Vera immigrated to Canada in 1946 on the RMS Queen Mary and together she & Lorne made a home starting from empty land to the farm still existing in the community of Aberdeen, Sk. There she learned how to drive, how to can vegetables, cook for working men while raising four children. After Lorne had a farming accident in 1979 they moved to Aberdeen and resided there for many years, traveling, and house-sitting for friends at the coast. Vera had many friends pop in for coffee & a chat after dad passed but eventually she moved to Saskatoon.
Veronica loved Music and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice. She continued to sing throughout her life. She led both the Aberdeen United Church adult and junior choirs. She was a Soloist for many weddings and events within the community. Having lived through the war, Lorne & Vera always honored Nov. 11th. Mom was active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion as well as the community. She worked at Fall suppers, curled at the rink, was a leader of the Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT) and worked at the Bank of Commerce for a number of years. Mom loved life. She would take us kids camping at Waskesiu every year, for picnics at the Forestry Farm and berry picking by the river. Family was the most important thing in the world to her. Vera loved Christmas, coffee, Sports, laughter & Love!
Predeceased by her husband Lorne in 1999, parents and siblings in England and son Lloyd in 2006, Vera is survived by her son Gordon (& Rhoda with their children John, Patricia & Lisa and their grandchildren, Evan, Eric, & Zackary) of Calgary, AB. Daughter Shirley (& Don Keith of Saskatoon, with their children Andrew & Laura and grandchild Akio) and Elaine & Stephen of Parksville, BC. Plus Lloyd’s sons, Alex and Christopher with great grandchildren Arimina, Bohdi & Beck, of Saskatoon and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, the UK, Australia and Europe.
Heartfelt Thanks goes to the wonderful staff at Brightwater Senior Living at Stonebridge. A private ceremony has been held.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Veronica Mary Thompson 2018.source
