OBITUARY
Vera Margaret Bernard
May 12, 1924 – July 27, 2018
It is with Sad Hearts that the family of Vera Margaret Bernard announce her passing on the 26th of July at her new home at Ridgewood Veterans Wing of the Horizon Health Center in Saint John New Brunswick.
Born on 12 May 1924 in Eel River Crossing New Brunswick to the late Loran and the late Mildred Burris.
In her early years she helped her ailing mother raise her sisters and brother. She eventually moved to Ontario where she enlisted in the war effort.
She was a veteran of the Second Great War and served in the Royal Canadian Army. She was proud of her service and was a faithful supporter of the Legion, Enjoying many ceremonies and events at her local Legion. After the war she returned to her home and in 1947 married James Joseph Bernard and raised two children…Linda and Bryan.
Unfortunately in 2016 due to failing health she had to leave her home and moved to Ridgewood. There she easily developed new friends and “family”. The staff at Ridgewood treated Mom with respect and compassion .They became her extended family.
Vera leaves behind four sisters Zella, Jean, Betsy, and Donna. She is survived by daughter Linda (John) and son Bryan (Gina), four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents ,she was predeceased by her husband James, and a brother Gerald.
A Funeral Service will be held at Maher’s Funeral Chapel, 421 Victoria St., Dalhousie on the 10th of August 2018 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be 1 hour before service time.
At family’s request, donations may be made to Ridgewood Veterans Comfort Fund or charity of your choice.
The Family would like to thank the doctors, nursing staff, clergy and indeed all the staff at Ridgewood for the dedicated care, compassion and respect they showed to our mother.
