Obituary Overview
Thomas “Tom” Lumb
Thomas “Tom” William Lumb born February 26, 1927 beloved husband to Shirley (Eckhahl) for a very happy 67 years, passed away at Royal University Hospital on August 22, 2018 at the age of 91.
He was a doting father to his daughters Carol Lumb and Debbie Matheson and taught them both the true meaning of unconditional love in his every action. He never failed to be their hero.
Grandpa will be dearly missed by his Grandchildren Chelsea Willness (Kevin Sass), Ryan Matheson (Krista) and Tara McElroy (Evan) who he absolutely adored and was more than proud of. He was also as proud as could be of his 4 little Great Grandchildren, Danika & Bentley Matheson and Brooklyn & Rylan McElroy. He took great pleasure in everything they did and looked forward to every opportunity to be with his entire family.
Tom will also be remembered by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, June & Vince Candline along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters, his brother, and son-in-law Ray Shinkaruk.
His working career began right out of high school when he trained as a Telegrapher in Davidson, Saskatchewan for CN Railway. He worked in several stations until becoming a Train Dispatcher in Saskatoon, Prince George and Edmonton. He then became a Rules Instructor in Saskatoon and Winnipeg. While living in Winnipeg, he commuted to Gimli Manitoba to the Gimli Training Centre also in the capacity of Rules Instructor. Upon retiring from the CN in 1982, he became an investigator with the Transportation Commission of Canada which he did for 5 years.
Tom loved to travel and he and Shirley enjoyed many wonderful holidays together. He also loved to dance and the two of them were an amazing couple to watch glide across the dance floor. He thoroughly enjoyed condo living with all the people he was happy to call friends at the Monticello.
There wasn’t a person who knew Tom who wouldn’t describe him as one of the nicest people they knew, always being a kind and gentle man.
At Tom’s request there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Jamie Rugg.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Thomas Tom Lumb 2018..
