Thomas’ Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Thomas Bernard Hackett announce his peaceful passing at the Palliative Care Unit at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the age of 74 years. Surrounded by his loving family, Thomas lost his courageous battle to Cancer. Born on Woods Island then resettled to Benoit’s Cove, he leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his 2 children: Barry (Stephanie Wheeler), and Joanne (Darryl White); the mother of his children Susan Hackett (nee Saunders); his grandchildren: Mandy, Megan, their mother (Denise) Erika, Julian and Jennifer; his nephews: Vince (Wendy) of Nova Scotia, and Paul (Betty) of Winnipeg, MB; his niece Sherri (Allan); and a large circle of other relatives, family and friends. Thomas was predeceased by his parents: Aloysius & Florence Hackett; his 2 brothers: Loran and Aloysius (Al) Hackett; his infant grandson Anthony Barry; and his partner Iona White. At Tom’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the Country Haven Chapel on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 10:30 am with Father Jim Robertson officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the WMRH Palliative Care Unit, Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Dunn, and Dr. Lafferty for all of their care and compassion during this difficult time.
