Obituary Overview
Walker, Susan (nee Belanger)
January 2, 1950 – December 18, 2018
With great love, we announce the passing of Susan Veronica Walker, surrounded by
family on December 18th, 2018.
Loving and dedicated mother to Angela (nee Walker) & Michael Yakonich, and Kevin &
Jennifer Walker. Susan provided a lifetime of ‘Mema Memories’ for her
grandchildren, Brayden, Chase, Emmerson, Rhyan, Layla and Linus. Lifelong
friend of Johnnie Walker with whom she shared her children and grandchildren.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, Geraldine and Frederick Belanger, and is survived
by her sisters, Marilynn Lemay (Ronnie), Fran Newman (Bobby) and Shelley Watson
(Colin). She was a favourite aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Sue will be deeply missed by her incredible circle of amazing friends who brought
love, laugher, travel and light to her life – as did she in return.
Sue was a Business and Co-Op high school teacher with the Greater Es Catholic
District School Board. After retirement she never slowed down. She was dedicated
to a life full of spending time with her grandchildren and volunteerism.
Volunteering is something Sue held very dear to her heart from a young age, and
in retirement this included Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Trillium Gift of Life
Network, The Welcome Centre Shelter for Women, and Windsor Homes Coalition, to
name only a few. Sue was also a member of the International Sigma Phi Gamma
sorority which brought her to being involved in managing the annual holiday
gift wrap event, benefitting Hiatus House and House of Sophrosyne.
Sue was the strongest woman many of us have ever known. Until the very end she
spent her life with an eternal soundtrack of Motown and the Beatles in her head,
singing and dancing at every opportunity she was given. Always on the go with
more energy, spunk and sass than anyone we have ever met, it was hard for
people half her age to keep up. With a love for fitness and big biceps, Sue
could often be found training with a group of women half her age and destroying
her competition regularly.
The world has lost the most incredible Mother, Mema, Sister and Friend but we take
comfort in knowing we can channel her kindness, selflessness, generosity,
infectious smile, laughter and energy to live our lives just the same as she did
every single day.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on January 5th, 2019 with
music, dancing and stories of how Sue touched each and every one of us. Please
stop in sometime after 6:30pm at Legion Branch 143 – 1570 Marentette Road,
Windsor. Don’t forget your dancing shoes! In lieu of flowers donations can be
made to the ‘Sue Walker Dedicated Volunteer Memorial Fund’ at Windsor Homes
Coalition Inc. This gift will be awarded to one of the agency’s dedicated
volunteers, each holiday season.
