SISTER EILEEN KATHLEEN MCALEESE, CSJ
The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, announces the death of our dear Sister Eileen at Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough, on November 15,2018. Sr. Eileen was born in Princeton, B. C. in 1942.
Sr. Eileen is predeceased by her parents, the late Margaret Brady and Archibald McAleese both from Ireland, her brother John and sister Mary (Jacobson). Family members who mourn her loss are her brothers Pat (Elizabeth), and James and her sisters, Isabelle (Joe Charron), Sheila Marie, Sarah Ann (Denis Gialet), Barb (Ron Lorenz), Elizabeth, Terrie, Nora (Giles) and Philomena (Gordon). She will be remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
She is lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community, the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, and the many friends she made during her years of service to others.
Sr. Eileen entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peterborough in 1959. After her novitiate training Sister became an X-Ray technician in Peterborough, and later studied Nuclear Medicine Technology. She worked in the Integrated Services of Nuclear Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Civic Hospital in Peterborough. After twenty years of ministry in the hospitals she retired and began a new undertaking. After completing the Spiritual Integration for Ministry Program at Regis College Sr. Eileen became involved in hospitals again but this time in the ministry of Pastoral Care. She went West for the next twenty years to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, Mount St. Mary in Victoria and Youville Residence in Vancouver in Pastoral Care Services.
Sr. Eileen’s next mission was in Edmonton where she became involved in many activities which included care of a family member, local leader, helping the Sisters at Villa Marguerite to move to Peterborough. She helped at Rosary Hall, a home for women, was a member of various committees and worked with the Edmonton and Wainwright AB Associates.
In 2015 Sr. Eileen moved back to Peterborough ON to reside at Mount St. Joseph. While tending to her health issues she continued to be of service by ministry within the local community.
She requested that her Mother, Father and Family be extended a “Thank You”. She thanks her Community, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and everyone she has met along her journey.
There will be a prayer vigil at Mount St. Joseph, 1555 Monaghan Road, on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. followed by a reception.
The Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 11.00 a.m. at Mount St. Joseph Chapel. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held later.
