Obituary for
S. Allan McKay
S. Allan McKay
1932-2018
With family all around, S. Allan McKay, age 86, passed away in Kitchener on 21st July 2018. He lived a full and happy life and – in his words – departed with so many things still to do. He truly believed in God and Jesus Christ and strived to be generous and kind to others.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Grace McKay, and Anne, his wife and the love of his life for 52 years. He is survived by daughters Micheline (Richard Comparey), Martha (Victor Jakowlew), and sons Andrew (Catherine), Angus (Sarah), and Malcolm and thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Cameron and sisters Mary Jane (Jack Dyment), Margaret Sanderson and brother-in-law Harry Renaud (Barbara) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Allan and Anne and their family lived a busy life. They resided in Quebec, England and Newfoundland before settling in Ayr, Ontario. He was a lieutenant (retired) in the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserve), and for many years was active in the scouting movement. He was an active member of the Anglican Church wherever he lived, and also served on the Board of Directors of Cambridge Memorial Hospital and Foundation, in addition to numerous other community activities.
A proud graduate of McMaster University as a chemist, Allan had a full and diverse career. Along with assorted management roles in industry, he was a small business consultant, and an entrepreneur. Together, Allan and Anne founded and ran the Homespun Shops of Ayr and Paris and owned and operated Elliott Coach Lines.
While family was always his focus, there was nothing he loved more than time in his workshop. Allan was an accomplished woodworker.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Lanark Heights Long Term Care Residence for their outstanding care, and their kindness to Allan and the family in his final days.
Visitation and a celebration of memories and laughter will be held at Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 183 Northumberland St. Ayr, Wednesday July 25th 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Funeral Service will be held at The Church of St. John the Evangelist (Anglican), 23 Water St. N. Kitchener, Thursday July 26th at 2:00 PM. Cremation to follow.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish, donations may be made to Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation, The Church of St. John the Evangelist Memorial Garden Fund in Kitchener, or a charity of your choice.

Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord: and let light perpetual shine upon him.
