OBITUARY
Rose Miriam Burton
May 25, 1959 – December 23, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Rose Burton announce her passing on Sunday December 23, 2018 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Rose passed away peacefully after a prolonged struggle with several cancer diagnoses and related illnesses over the past 10 years.
Born May 25, 1959 to the late Maurice “Bernie” and Stella (McKinnon) Burton, Rose was born and raised in Glace Bay. Always a whiz with numbers Rose worked in accounting and bookkeeping for 30 years after attending St. Michael’s High School and graduating from the Cape Breton Business College.
Rose spent many summers at the family cottage in Big Pond with her father, siblings, and later her own children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her friends, going to dances at the Dominion fire hall, bowling, drinking countless cups of tea and sitting around the kitchen table getting all the news about the people she loved.
Rose is survived by her partner of 11 years, Gordon MacIsaac, her sons, Kevin Poirier in Glace Bay NS, Colin and Tanya (Rolls) Poirier, Timmins ON, her daughter Merika Poirier (Doug Cogswell), Lower Sackville NS, and her three grandchildren Emma, Riley, and Jaydan. She is also survived by her sisters Anna (Allister) Roberts and Maureen (late Edward) McNeil Glace Bay NS, Stella (John) Doucet, Halifax NS and her brother Bernard Burton (Michael Noonan), Halifax NS.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, 902-849-7520. Visitation will be held Friday January 4, 2019, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Saturday January 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Patten Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay at a later date.
