KOLKE – Rose Caroline, passed away peacefully with family at her side May 9, 2018, at Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert. Rose was born November 7, 1933, where she grew up on a family farm with her parents and four sisters. Rose attended school in Tuffnell, SK and graduated high school at Foam Lake in 1952. In the fall of 1952, she went to the Saskatchewan Training School in Weyburn, SK to pursue a three-year course in Psychiatric Nursing, graduating in 1955. After graduation she continued employment with the Training School at the relocated Institution in Moose Jaw, continuing her psychiatric nursing career. In 1961, Rose transferred to Prince Albert to the newly opened Saskatchewan Training school, later known as North Park Center. Throughout her working career, she spent 34 years with the provincial government in various capacities, including employment at the current Victoria Hospital where she started the first occupational therapy unit. During her time in Weyburn she met her husband, Marv Kolke, who she later married in 1956. Rose was very devoted to her family and her community, often sacrificing her own time to raise her twin boys and to volunteer her time with the PA Boys Choir, The Mental Health Association, and the Calvary UCW, becoming an honourary life member. Following her working career, Rose and Marv enjoyed spending time at their trailer at Emma Lake in the summer months and traveling to visit with family and friends.
Rose is survived by her loving husband of nearly 62 years: Marv; son: Kevin (Tammy) and their sons, Layne, Sam and Joel; son: Kelly (Doreen) and their children, Hannah and Hayden; sisters: Lillian Tarnowetzki, Joan (Gary) Roy and Deanna (Willie) Derkach as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Rose was predeceased by her parents: John and Mary Magera; sister: Betty (Walter) Tarnowetski; and brother- in- law: Matt Tarnowetzki.
Funeral Service will be held at Calvary United Church, 114 – 25 St E, on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Nora Vedress as Officiant. Interment will take place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in lieu of other tributes may do so to a charity of their choice.
