Rosalind Cam Driver, age 75, passed away peacefully at NRGH in Nanaimo, following complications of a rare autoimmune disease. Born in Winnipeg to Dan and Edith Botterill, she was predeceased by them, as well as her sister Judy in 2016. Cam is survived by her husband Wally of 25 years, her brother Jon of Kelowna and family, her first-born Michael of New York City. Also her son Dean and family, her son Darren, her step daughter Kim and family, her step daughter Tammy, and her son Murray, all of Nanaimo. Cam grew up with parents who formally went to Art School in Winnipeg. Her dad designed the Great West Life logo, and her mother was an accomplished water colourist. It is no surprise that Cam and Michael inherited the art genes as well. Cam was a caregiver from the start, but was impatient to start her nursing career. She bypassed her last year of high school and challenged the nursing course with only a grade 11. Cam graduated with honours.
Cam raised 2 sons in Nanaimo with her first husband, an RCMP officer and consequently spent more than 5 years nursing up North in places like Fort Providence. Upon return to Nanaimo, Cam continued to juggle Nursing with family obligations. In 1964, Cam was the youngest head nurse on the Paediatric ward. Cam met her husband Wally in the late 80’s, and they surprised everyone at her staff Christmas party by getting married at that party. Social life centered on camping, playing bridge, formal dancing, and visiting with friends. Cam also took her bachelor’s degree at the end of her career, just because she could. After 26 years of nursing Cam reduced her stress load by retiring, but remained the ever present caregiver. Wally and Cam adopted Murray at a young age, and now at 20 has become a special jewel in their lives. Her pet multi-poo Muffin however is still a bit lost by her absence.
We all miss you immensely. We are sorry you had health problems into your retirement. We will honour you with a celebration of life as you requested, later on.
And we will honour your legacy by “Paying it Forward”
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local SPCA.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Rosalind Cam Driver July 17 1942 June 14 2018 (age 75).source
