RONALD JOSEPH WICKLER
1934 – 2018
It is with heavy hearts the family of Ron Sr. shares the news of his passing on the evening of Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the age of 84 years. He had a difficult month-long struggle after a heart valve replacement procedure, resulting in multiple organ failure.
Left to cherish Ron’s memory are his wife of 63 years, Virginia (Levandoski); children Ron (Susan), Kathy (Clint), Tony (Renee), Linda (Rick), and Dean; grandchildren Candace (Nick), Meagan (Brandon), Ashley, Jessica, Andrew, and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Madison and Aria; and his beloved cat Ling He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Tina; sister Dorothy and son Todd.
Ron was born in Winnipeg at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital and attended Machray School. When he was a teen, his family moved to Sioux Lookout where they ran the CN restaurant, The Beanery. After a tragic car accident took his father’s life, the family returned to Winnipeg. Ron met Virginia shortly after, marrying and then raising a large, busy family in the North End. He loved taking the family on road adventures to the USA. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his sons.
Ron worked at Canada Packers and then in construction, often travelling to Saskatchewan for a job. He went on to become an orderly at the Winnipeg General Hospital and then retired early from a position in the Psychiatric Wing, assisting patients with alcohol dependency.
Ron enjoyed a long and busy retirement with his family at their Maples home and at the trailer in Gimli, nurturing a small but bountiful garden, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their endeavours.
Ron was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He believed in the value of hard work, saving his spare change for a rainy day, and being a responsible person. He tried to instill those values in the younger members of the family. Our hearts are heavy now and Ron will always be missed.
In keeping with Ron’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
Thank-you to the caring staff at St. Boniface Hospital A5 south and A5 AACU. Ron said many times that he was having very good care.
