FLACK, Robert “John” December 4, 1941 – September 3, 2018 John Flack was born in Ederney, Northern Ireland, the son of Hugh and Sarah Flack (nee Gray), and passed away in Calgary at the age of 76 years after a lengthy struggle with vascular dementia. John was educated at Enniskillen and Belfast Technical Colleges and graduated with a Higher National Certificate. He met and married the love of his life Maureen while studying in Belfast. They emigrated to Calgary as a newly married couple in 1968. John found work as a draftsman in a newly founded company, Delta Projects, where he spent the next 27 years becoming a Project Manager. After retirement, he and Maureen travelled extensively making several visits to Australia and New Zealand, Hawaii, China, interspersed with visits back to Ireland. He loved to entertain family and friends and delighted to show his visitors the beauty spots of his adopted country. He was an avid runner and participated in the Calgary Police half marathon and the Melissa’s road race in Banff for several years. He loved to camp and dabbled in fishing. He was a devout Christian and served as an elder of the Presbyterian church. He is survived by his wife Maureen, his children Richard (Roberta), Eleanor (Mario) and Graham and five grandchildren, a brother Graham in Northern Ireland, and his sister Evelyn in Fonthill, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the memorial fund of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer’s Society Canada.
