Obituary Overview
Robert James “Jim” Whyte
Jim passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on August 24, 2018 at the age of 74 years after a hard-fought battle with COPD. He is survived by Helen his wife of 47 years, son Scott and his wife Candice and children Matt, Tim, Sierra, Bella and Lily; daughter Heather and her husband David (Reichert); son Nolan and his wife Mina and their children Alex and Ella. Jim was pre-deceased by his parents Robert and Ellen Whyte of Melfort and sisters Connie, Ann and Brenda and his brother Murray. Jim grew up on a farm North of Star City and left home after Grade 11 to make his way in the world. He enjoyed careers driving logging trucks, pipe fitting and installing furnaces for Prairie Gas, parts salesman for Saskatoon Motor Products and Mystery Lake Motors in Thompson, Manitoba and lastly as parts manager and then Credit Manager for Kramer Tractor in Regina where he was employed for over 30 years.
Jim was a self-taught craftsman who loved to build furniture and what he built was made to last. He was a Scouting leader for many years and enjoyed the challenges of winter camping and canoeing the Churchill River system with his boys. Jim was also a friend of Bill W. where he met and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of many fine members.
Jim loved to putz in his garden and enjoyed nothing more than morning coffee and a smoke on the patio enjoying his flowers and sharing his space with the “puppers” Bailey, Mousey and Coco.
As Jim’s health began to decline in 2016 he and Helen moved into a condo in Saskatoon to be closer to their daughter, Heather.
Jim will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. . Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Seniors First Program c/o Home Care 201-310 Idylwyld Dr. N, Saskatoon, SK S7L 0Z2.
