Robert “Bobby” Turnbull
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Gemmell Turnbull, affectionately known to all as Bobby, on May 22, 2018. A true Scotsman and leader of our Turnbull clan here in Canada. Bobby was born in Jamestown, Scotland on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond on June 28th, 1926 and was a twin to his brother Billy who predeceased him, together with 3 other brothers and 2 sisters. As a teenager he was a Scottish National Rowing Champion. He loved his homeland but traveled to Ireland then to Canada to start a new life. He was joined by his soul mate Cathie and they soon settled into their new home in Brantford. Bobby and Cathie were blessed with three children and many wonderful friends. He was an accomplished stonemason and bricklayer and his work has stood the test of time. Bobby was a talented soccer player and he played many years with the Brantford Ex-Imperials and passed those talents to his grandsons who he loved to see play the game. His love of the game never stopped and he could be found on many a Saturday morning watching his team Manchester United. He often enjoyed a game of golf on the Links at Arrowdale followed by a beer with the guys. Bobby enjoyed the simple things in life and loved his family very much. He lived a rich and wonderful life and will be dearly missed. Bobby is survived by his wife of 62 years Cathie, children Jim (Angee), Larry, Janine (Brent), and his grandchildren Katy (Mike), Bobby (Liv), Ben (Sam), Will, Alec and Drew. The family will receive friends at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Sunday, May 27, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Donations to Arnold Anderson Sport Fund or Lansdowne Children’s Centre can be made in Bobby’s memory.
