Obituary for
Regina Jones (Northridge)
(BA Bishop’s University) October 18th, 1926 – August 18th, 2018.
Passed away peacefully at the Civic Hospital, surrounded by her family, at the age of 91. ESL Teacher at Willis College (ret.), and resident of Unitarian House. Wife of the late David Jones and the late Eric MacGillivray.
Daughter of William Robert Northridge and Hazel Lorraine Calhoun; Mother of Michael (Mitsuko), Sheila (Ryszard) and Megan (Richard), and step-mother to Ernest (Gail). Grandmother of Allison (Jeff), Emily (Jose), and Akira (Ariel) Brigitte (Alex). Step-grandmother of Stuart (Joanne), Duncan (Dana), Nathan (Stephanie). Great-Grandmother of Carmen, Lucia, Elliott and Gwendolyn and step-great-grandmother of Alexander, Noam and Hendrix.
Regina grew up in New York and New Jersey, where her father ( RAF WW I) was a minister to the homeless during the Great Depression, and in Sherbrooke Quebec. She attended Bishop’s University where she met her lifelong friends Joyce and Donald Lewis and Scott and Barbara Gordon.
She was a founding member of West End Nursery School. When our family lived in Ghana, she was a volunteer at the Korlebu Hospital and taught ESL. She obtained her Ontario Teacher’s Degree in and found her vocation in teaching English as a Second Language.
She and Eric enjoyed their participation in the Kemptville Choir, performing Handel’s Messiah, Patience, and Madame Butterfly, and after Eric’s passing, Regina enjoyed her participation in the Unitarian House Choir, and in participating in all of the activities with many good friends at Unitarian House.
She will be dearly missed by all for her kindness, her sharp mind and her great sense of humour. Sincere appreciation and thanks to staff at Unitarian House and to AMA team at the Civic Hospital.
Memorial Service will be held at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, 30 Cleary Avenue, on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 5:00p.m. A reception will follow the service. Donations would be appreciated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Doctors Without Borders.
