Raymond Ross
1936-2018
It is with heavy hearts the family of Raymond James Ross announce his
peaceful passing on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Saint John
Regional Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his
wife Betty (Barnes) of 55 years; daughter Krista Nugent (Bill) of
Saint John, son Darren of Sussex and grandchildren Brendan and Sarah
Ross.
Ray was born February 23, 1936 in Plaster Rock, to the late Garfield
and Nettie (Ashford) Ross. He was raised in Riley Brook where he
attended a one room school house in his early years. He graduated from
the Saint John Vocational School’s Telecommunication Program.
In his early career Ray worked as a Radio Operator on the icebreaker
“Baffin” charting the North West Passage. As his career
evolved he became a Transport Canada Flight Service Specialist at
Gander, Moncton, Halifax and Saint John Airports for over 35
years.
Ray’s family was his greatest joy and he was so proud of
everyone. Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing with Darren and Brendan,
seeing Sarah sing and play her sports, watching Brendan playing hockey
and vacationing with Krissy and Bill on their sailboat in the
Caribbean. He loved putting on the miles in his truck with Betty,
taking pictures of wildlife, his family and friends and then sending
them on his computer. He was an avid outdoorsman and would often be
seen driving his ATV, tractor and snowmobile.
Ray’s friends were countless and of every age. He made everyone
feel special and took great interest in whatever they were doing. He
loved having company stop in and having a cook out in the woods. He
was happy and content living out his retirement years back home in
Riley Brook with his beloved Betty.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and
nurses of the Surgical ICU, 4CN and Dr. Mark Tutschka, at the Saint
John Regional Hospital, and the ICU in Edmundston for their care and
compassion. A very special thank you to Dr. Hari Kumar Ondiveeran who
was always there to care for Ray and support our family through this
difficult time. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Resting at the Tobique Chapel, Plaster Rock, NB, with visitation on
Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday,
February 1, 2018 at 2 pm from the Tobique Chapel. Pastor Emile
Arsenault officiating. Interment will be in the Riley Brook Community
Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Riley Brook
Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
