Phyllis (Reid) MacMaster – 72, Oxford, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 18 of a massive stroke. Born in the family farmhouse on June 23, 1945, in Streets Ridge, Phyllis was the 9th child of Norman and Annie Reid. On January 7, 1961, Phyllis married Frank Murray MacMaster who preceded her in death in 2008. Together they owned and operated a convenience store and taxi in Oxford for many years. She worked at Oxford Frozen Foods and later as a seamstress at Stanfields. Phyllis attended the Oxford Church of the Nazarene for many years and was very active in the women’s ministries of the church during those years. As time passed, and health worsened, she was no longer able to attend, but remained an avid supporter of the church, especially the youth group. She also supported the Oxford Food Bank in efforts to help those less fortunate than herself. Phyllis supported the cancer society on a regular basis as well. Everyone who knew Phyllis knew her to be a compassionate, kind-hearted and generous person. She would do anything for those in need and would willingly sacrifice for others. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Sonia (Robert) Ingersoll, Kalamazoo, Michigan; sisters, Rhoda MacDonald, Ft. Erie, ON; Linda Rushton, Truro; Sheila MacMaster, Hamilton, ON; Verna Thompson, Amherst; grandchildren, Kathleen and Amanda. She was blessed to have two surviving loving in-laws in the area who have been like true sisters to her, Helen (Ronnie) Eastcott, of Debert and Bettie (Victor) Dickie of Brookfield. In addition to her husband, Frank, Phyllis is predeceased by her two sons, Carl and Stephen as well as eight siblings. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m., Friday, March 23, followed by funeral service at 3 p.m., all in the Church of the Nazarene, 207 Lower Main St, Oxford, with Rev. Mark Collins officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’s memory can be made to the Oxford Food Bank or the Canadian Cancer Soceity. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mmcfunerals.com
