Phillip Edmund Wesley Baker

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Phillip Edmund Wesley Baker. Phillip was born to his mother Sheila Baker and father Bradley Guss on November 23, 1993 and passed away unexpectedly in his home early Saturday morning. Phillip descends from the Guss/Jackson & Baker/Williams families and was very proud of his heritage from Snuneymuxw, Shíshálh, Skwxwú7mesh Nations.
Phillip grew up on Mission IR No. I in North Vancouver and was affectionately known as ‘Philly Phil’ by friends and family. He attended Queen Mary Elementary, Carson Graham Senior Secondary and Keith Lynn Alternate Secondary Schools where he proudly graduated in the KLASS of 2013. Phillip’s legacy would be his courage and strength that he faced in adversity. Although he lived with a lot of pain and discomfort he never showed or complained but championed through the effects of a bone disorder called Rickets as well as kidney failure. In 2007 the team at BC Children’s Hospital referred Phillip to Make-A-Wish Foundation and he proudly received an entire entertainment package that included a stereo system, big screen TV, 2 game system – Wii, X-box and games; he was the envy of the reserve and quick to share his good fortune with friends. He loved his music, to dance and hang out at Capilano River or EB Games in Park Royal.
Phillip is survived by and will be dearly missed by his loving grandmother Mabel Guss (nee: Jackson); parents Bradley Guss & Sheila Baker; sisters Celestine (Allen), Edith (Mike) and Brianna (Dean); nieces & nephews Chakotay, Tusula, Adelina, Aness, Wesley, Tatianna, Saraya and Isabelle; aunts & uncles Vanessa, Maemie (Donald), Teresa (Art), Evelyn (Van), Lisa (Albert); and special friends Nathan, Robert, Ilona and Marion.
A Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, September 26 at 7:00 pm and a Funeral Service on Thursday, September 27 at 10:00 am, both at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, 100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver, BC. On line condolences may be shared on this website.
