Obituary Overview
Peter Braden Drysdale
DRYSDALE, Peter Braden
Peter Drysdale, age 77, of Beaver Bank passed away peacefully on April 4, 2018 at the Halifax Infirmary with his family at his side. He was born in Halifax on April 30, 1940 to the late Robert and Emelyn (Braden) Drysdale. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra (Ainslie), and their daughter Andrea, both of Beaver Bank; his brother Lester (Valerie), Bedford; several aunts, nieces and nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law. He will be sorely missed by canine companions Bonnie, Toby and Molly. He was predeceased by his parents, stepmother Agnes, sister Carol Jean, brother Gordon and sister-in-law Kathy, and brother-in-law Rae Ainslie. Peter spent his early years in the Hydrostone area of Halifax. When he was in his teens, his family relocated to North Street in Bedford, known locally as “Drysdale Hill.” He enjoyed many carefree outdoor adventures with his siblings, cousins and friends, especially at the family’s camp at West Lake. Always industrious, he began working as soon as he could, first delivering newspapers and later serving as a “newsie” on the trains between Sydney and Montreal. He was also a Boy Scout and later served in the Army Reserves. When he was still in his teens he met his future wife, Sandra, and they were married in 1962. Peter worked at various jobs until accepting a position with the Iron Ore Company in Labrador City in 1974. The family spent seven years in the north before a new mine opened in the Elk Valley of BC and Peter accepted a position as maintenance supervisor at Line Creek, a job he loved and held for 24 years. Peter and Sandra enjoyed their time in beautiful Fernie, but on retirement decided to return to Nova Scotia to be near family. Over the years Peter and Sandra travelled to numerous places. Peter enjoyed visits to Las Vegas and sun destinations, but his favourite trip was a Rhine River cruise they took to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Visitation will be held Monday, April 9 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, from 6-8 pm. A celebration of life service and reception will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 10, also at Atlantic Funeral Home, followed by interment at Oakridge Memorial Gardens. Sandra and Andrea especially wish to thank Dr. Franklyn Vincent, the VON nurses and all the medical staff at the Cobequid Health Centre and Halifax Infirmary for their compassionate care. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Lung Association or charity of your choice.
