Obituary Overview
Jack Coggins
Patrick John “Jack” Coggins, Ph.D. passed away at RUH on November 16, 2018. Jack was born in Saskatoon on August 22, 1948 to Pat and Kay Coggins. Early in his life and partly inspired by his pilot father, he developed a keen interest in airplanes, Air Cadets and all things military. He went on to get his BA, MA, B.Ed. (U of S) and Ph.D. in History (McGill). He was a gifted history lecturer and was the inaugural recipient of the University of Saskatchewan’s Sylvia Wallace Sessional Lecturer Award in 2001. He enjoyed Scottish country dancing, music, and spirited discussions of history and politics. He acted as civilian instructor for the 107 Air Cadet Squadron. He was an avid cyclist with extensive road trips to Vancouver and San Francisco. As a result of injuries sustained in a cycling accident in 2005, Jack was rendered a quadriplegic and his life changed dramatically. He accepted this with fortitude and found a new outlet in painting by mouth. Jack is survived by his devoted wife Shelley (née Ziola), his brother Dan (Carol Schick) of Regina, his sisters Jill Coggins (Bill Tymchyshyn) and Deborah Tuff of Calgary, sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Eric) Vogan of Texarkana, Texas, Lois (Tim) Knutson of Thunder Bay, Laurie Ziola (David Bocking) of Calgary and Patti Ziola (Mark Klassen) of Saskatoon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Grateful thanks go to Dr. Zane Tymchak, Sherbrooke and Home Care nursing and staff, and the medical staff of RUH Emergency Dept., Ward 6200 and Palliative Care.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Patrick John Michael Jack Coggins 2018..
