Patricia MacNeil
1931-2018
MacNeil, Mary Patricia (MacKinnon), 86, of Mahoney’s Beach,
Antigonish County, died peacefully in her sleep at home on September
24, 2018.
Born in Antigonish on October 8, 1931, she was the youngest
child of the late Dr. W. F. and Mary P. (Chisholm)
MacKinnon.
Pat grew up in a household where service to others
grew out of her deeply held Catholic faith. She acquired
early-on a lifelong love of horses. She graduated
from McGill University School of Physiotherapy and balanced her adult
life between treating patients and raising her
family. Pat loved life and people. Her
later years included volunteer service at the Antigonish Food Bank and
with the Antigonish Town and County Palliative Care Society, tempered
with an increasing appreciation for bridge-playing.
She is survived by her brother, Reverend Gregory MacKinnon
and her six children: Brian, Mahoney’s Beach; Andrew, Halifax; Rob
(Jackie), Toronto; Beth, Ottawa; Ian (Gisele), Whitby; Greg (Lisa),
Toronto; and her grandchildren Patricia, Madeleine, and Cecile, and
Michael, Graham, Greg and Ewan.
Pat was predeceased by her husband, Michael J. MacNeil; three
brothers, Bill, John, and Ken; and two sisters, Maureen and
Janet.
Visitation will be held at C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135
College Street, Antigonish on Friday, September 28th from 2:00- 4:00
pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at
St. Columba Church, Lakevale, Antigonish County at 11:00am, Saturday,
September 29th, with Reverend Andrew Boyd presiding. Burial
in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital
Foundation or the Antigonish Town and County Palliative Care Society
would be welcomed.
