MURPHY, Norma Irene – It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Norma say farewell. Norma died peacefully at home at The Meadows, Yarmouth, on January 5. Born the daughter of Charles and Mina (Brophy) Munroe on the northern point of Lockeport, she spent her formative years in Pubnico. There she was embraced by the community as part of the only English-speaking family living there at that time. She returned to Lockeport each weekend and eventually finished her high school years there where she met and later married Sgt. Charlie Ross Murphy. She then made memories as a strict but fun loving teacher in the variety of places across Canada where they were stationed. She took great pride in her son Michael Murphy of Shelburne and daughter Tracey Murphy (Emile LeBlanc) of Meteghan River. Norma was overjoyed when she became a grandmother to Avery LeBlanc although she had been practicing for the position with niece Mallory and nephew Regan Munroe for years. Norma knew the value of simple joys like watching an apple tree blossom or tapping her foot along to bluegrass music. She was a talented host of potluck suppers which kept her siblings, Kevin (Peggy) Munroe of Bedford, Sheila (Lorne) Weaver of Onslow and the late Vaughan (Priscilla) Munroe of Lockeport, close in addition to extended and chosen family. There were always stories and laughs to be shared. She leaves behind many fond memories. Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 20 in the Lockeport Baptist church at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Hospital Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Yarmouth, where on-line condolences may be sent by visiting www.huskilson.net
