In Loving Memory of
Norma Elaine Reid
December 16, 1940 – December 16, 2018
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Norma Elaine Reid. Norma passed peacefully in her sleep on December 16th, 2018 at Kinsmen Place Lodge, Surrey. Norma was born in New Westminster and grew up in Burnaby, living in the house that her father built on 14th Ave.
Norma attended school in Burnaby, graduating from Burnaby South High School in 1958. She then entered UBC for two years, obtaining a teaching certificate, and eventually a Bachelor of Education – Elementary in 1968.
She was hired by the Burnaby School District #41 and began a 22 year teaching career. Norma was a dedicated Primary teacher, with Kindergarten being a special love for her. She introduced hundreds of families, both parents and students to the joy of learning. Norma married Alex Reid on Aug 2nd, 1963 and they were blessed with a son, David and daughter Elaine. During the ensuing years, they lived in North Vancouver, Lahr, West Germany (3 yrs), Burnaby, Coquitlam, and finally Surrey. Norma loved to travel, with her favorite destinations being Paris and the Oregon Coast. Norma is predeceased by her parents, Don and Doris Forbes, Uncles Ernie and Royden Marshall, brother-in-law David Reid, cousin Linda Rehlinger, and leaves behind husband Alex, son David, daughter Elaine, sister Tricia Pepper, Aunt Lorraine Marshall, nieces Erin Pepper and Candace Sohier, nephews Michael Pepper and Bryan Reid, and 5 grandchildren, Morgan, Mairéid, Connor, Hudson and Amelia. A Celebration of Norma’s Life will be held at Avalon Surrey Funeral Home, 13288 108 Ave, Surrey, BC on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 am.
The Family would like to thank the entire staff at Kinsmen Place Lodge with special attention to the Bear Creek Wing for their professional and loving care provided to Norma. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of choice.
