Miriam Jean Coldwell
1941-2018
Coldwell, Miriam Jean CD2, SSM, – of New Minas, Kings County,
N.S. passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 in Mountain Lea Lodge,
Bridgetown, Annapolis County. Miriam was born in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan on the 11th of October 1941, she was the daughter of the
late Francis Gilbert and Ina Jean (Simson) Coldwell. Miriam attended
school in Wolfville, Grand Pré and Church Street. In
November 1959 she joined the RCAF and did her basic training in St.
Jean, Quebec and her trades training in Aylmer, Ontario. Upon
finishing trades training she was posted back to St. Jean, Quebec. In
1962 she was transferred to 4 Wing Baden-Soellingen, Germany. While in
Germany she travelled in Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland, Austria
and France to name a few. In 1965 she returned to Canada and was
transferred to Greenwood from where she took her release. In 1967
Miriam rejoined the military as a Supply Tech at CFB Greenwood. She
spent three and a half years as an instructor at CFRS Cornwallis. She
spent two years at Shearwater and then went back to Greenwood in 1977.
Miriam retired in 1981 and joined the 507 Air Cadet Squadron in
Kentville as the Supply Officer. In 1985 she was appointed the
Squadron Commanding officer, a position that she held until June of
1990. She joined the Air Reserve Unit in Greenwood in 1991 as a Supply
Tech, a position she held until retirement in October 1996. Miriam
also worked at Michelin (Waterville), Canadian Frozen Foods and
Zellers. She is survived by two sisters, Patricia Schofield, New Minas
and Sharon Armsworthy, Halifax; five nephews and two nieces as well as
several great nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and there
will be no visitation by request or funeral service by request. A
private family burial will be held at Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville.
Donations in memory may be made to the Arthritis Society of Nova
Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
