Helena Frances Mills (nee Cote)
October 22, 1918 – May 12, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Helena Frances Mills at her home in Jubilee Manor, after a fall, 5 months before her 100th birthday. Helena was born October 22, 1918 in Strathmore, Alberta, to Phillip and Rosella Cote, the second youngest of 5 children. They moved to a fruit farm in Harrop in 1928 and later into Nelson.
Helena married Robert Mills on February 14, 1944. Helena and Bob enjoyed fishing, mining, metal detecting and travelling. Helena also loved knitting and bowling, but sewing was her biggest love and talent. She was an accomplished seamstress making most of her own clothes as well as making suits, wedding dresses and figure skating costumes. She was always willing to mentor others with sewing projects.
Helena was predeceased by her husband Bob of 38 years, parents Rosella and Phillip Cote, brothers Vernon, Earl, Le Roi, niece Beverly Tetrault and sister-in-law’s Virginia Cote, Dorothy Cote, Bea Mills and brother in law Roy Mills.
Helena leaves behind her sister Ivy Peloso (Andy), nieces and nephews Heather Hnatiuk (Lorne Wuori), Louise Brown (Bob), Susan Mucciarone (John), Vernon Cote (Heather), Philip Cote (Jeanne), Le Roi Jr., Roberta Read, Steven Read, Allan Mills, Michael Mills (Glenda), Carol Muller and 29 great and grand nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, and Sharon Stein who Helena loved as a daughter.
We would like to thank the staff at Jubilee Manor for the care, affection and kindness you gave Helena.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation of BC and Yukon at 4 – 1551 Sutherland Ave. Kelowna BC V1X 9M9.
