Mildred Katherine Lewis
1930-2018
Peacefully at her residence at Blacks Harbour NB on Friday, November
30, 2018, Mrs. Mildred Katherine (Hill) Lewis, wife of the late Robert
“Bob”Martin Lewis. Born at Bonny River NB on November 26,
1930 she was a daughter of the late Frank and Sarah “Sadie”
Jane (Buchanan) Hill.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she is survived by:
sons; Ray (Marilyn) Lewis of Pennfield NB and Gregory “Greg”
(Candice) Lewis of Breadalbane NB, daughters: Catherine
“Cathy” (Art) Hennessey of Blacks Harbour Nb and Cynthia
“Cindi” Lewis of Ottawa ON, grandchildren; Virginia Lewis of
Calgary AB, Patrick Hennessey and Shawn (Amanda) Hennessey both of
Blacks Harbour NB, great grandaughter Molly, her brother; Frank Hill
Jr. of Blacks Harbour NB, her sister; Marjorie (Guilford) Cooke of St.
George NB as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition
to her parents and husband Bob, she was predeceased by a
granddaughter; Kaitlin Lewis and brothers; Murray, Vernon and
Cedric.
Mildred was a military wife who travelled throughout the world
with her family, retiring in Blacks Harbour. She lived previously in
Petawawa ON, twice in Oromocto and twice in Germany. In her earlier
years she belonged to the militia. She was a sports fan who enjoyed
hockey and baseball and was a big Maple Leaf and Blue Jay fan.
Mildred also loved curling and during her life was able to attend such
tournaments as the World Curling Championships and the Brier. Two of
her favorite curlers she enjoyed to watch were Jeff Stouten and Kevin
Martin. She also once enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Mildred also
loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
In keeping with Mildred’s wishes there will be no visiting. A
celebration of her life will be held from the St. George Funeral Home
Chapel on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 11am followed by a time of
refreshments and fellowship at the Stella Maris Hall in Blacks
Harbour. In lieu of flowers, donations to the I.W.K or a charity of
the donors choice would be appreciated by the family. The Lewis family
would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the
Cooke family for their kindness, love and compassion shown to Mildred
as well as the many caregivers who tended to Mildred’s care the last
few years.
