OBITUARY
Michael Richard Muir
February 3, 1954 – July 2, 2018
Michael Richard Muir, February 3, 1954 – July 2, 2018, passed away at Edmonton, Alberta where he had lived for a number of years. Michael is survived by his parents, Joy and Barry Muir, his sister Shannon, and many family and friends.
Michael had a deep soul, a kind heart, loved to laugh, had a wacky sense of humour, and loved to tease. He often helped others. Many could attest that he enjoyed discussions and debate. Michael started working while very young delivering the newspaper and setting traps for an annual skeet shooting event that was held in Harrison Hot Springs. He worked as a houseman at the Harrison Hotel and later went into the woods – working in the logging industry as a chokerman and setting the rigging. He enjoyed the hard work but it wasn’t his passion. Eventually, he discovered his trade – Ironworker! Michael trained at BCIT, did his apprenticeship in British Columbia and worked on various sites throughout British Columbia. He also worked in Ontario and Alberta. It would be safe to say that as a younger man, Michael was a risk taker. He worked the high steel; no fear of heights for him. Michael was married and later divorced from Nancy.
While Michael was good at sports (golf, baseball, cycling), cycling was the one he maintained throughout his life. He bought his first 10 speed in his early teens. It was his mode of transportation and he continued to cycle even when his health was declining. He wanted to keep fit and he was optimistic.
As a young boy and teenager, Michael had been quite religious and was baptized at the Gospel Chapel in Harrison Hot Springs. Michael was always spiritual in nature. Several years ago, he returned to his religious self and credited God for helping him through some difficult times. He always believed there was someone watching over him and saved his life several times; this he also credited to God. He was a devout believer and practiced his religion very faithfully and was guided by it.
Michael is very much missed. He passed far too early and this was devastating for his family and friends. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 2:30 pm at Valley View Cemetery, 5065 Cemetery Road, Agassiz, BC.
