Nihill, Michael (Mike).
We fondly remember Mike Nihill, who left this world for the
next on the morning of December 20, 2018. Several of those who saw the
beautiful sunrise that morning remarked that it was Mike’s final farewell. Mike
was born in Toronto on January 22, 1940 to parents Anne and Walter
(predeceased) and is survived by his brother Bob. Mike married Virginia Arscott
on August 22, 1967. Mike and Ginny have four children – Jennifer (married to
Mike Burns and mom of Mike’s grandson Sam), Sean, Patrick (married to Jessica
Connell and father of Mike’s granddaughter Zoe) and Pamela (partner to Andy). Mike
is remembered by his many friends and family members. Mike spent his career in
human resources in all sectors of industry. Settling in Midland in 1988, Mike
worked at what is now Raytheon ELCAN Optical Technologies until his retirement in
April 2011. Throughout his life Mike had many hobbies, including playing
football, basketball and baseball, fishing and golf. In more recent years Mike
was an avid bridge player both with friends and with the Midland Bridge Club,
where he will be missed at Table 1. Mike also loved music (particularly folk
and big band) and, most of all, to share a good laugh. The family would like to
express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rob Helt, Angela and Natasha at Bayshore
Health Care and the nursing teams of 2E and 1N at Georgian Bay General Hospital
for their excellent care. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held in the
spring time with details posted in a further announcement. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation and
memories may be shared, both through Nicholls Funeral Home at www.arbormedical.ca/en/nicholls/obitutarites.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Michael Mike Nihill 2018..
