Merritt, Dr. Robert
March 7th, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Robert Merritt, at the age of 69, on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Sheree, and his family. Loving father to his children Doug Merritt (Laura) and Kelley Merritt. Brother to Linda (Gary). Proud Grandpa to Chase Hamilton and Adalynn Lee Merritt. Loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, including Candace (Simon), Paul (Marnie), Kristen (Dave), Stephanie, and Susie. Predeceased by his brother Dr. Rick Merritt (Heather). Dr. Robert remained proud of starting a janitorial business in order to put himself through school resulting in him receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1974. He was a long standing member of several dental associations – ODA, LDDS and AGD. For over 15 years, Dr. Robert was involved in many advanced dental study clubs for the development of superior dental surgery techniques. He took great pride in serving his patients for 44 years – always putting their needs first with a caring, preventative approach. His greatest joy was having four generations of family in his practice. Dr. Robert loved the water and was an avid boating captain. His passions in life included piloting his own aircraft, trap shooting, scuba diving, skiing and spending time every year in his beloved Jamaica ‘San Souse’ with his wife Sheree. Dr. Robert had a true love of music and was a drummer in his own band, as well as being a back-up drummer for many big bands while going to school. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all who have sent their thoughts and prayers to him over the past few months. A special thank you to Doctors Hawel, Skaro and Lee at University Hospital and the many nurses and support staff on the 8th Floor. Also sincere thanks to all the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their love and support and caring for Dr. Robert and a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Natalie Hertzman for her compassion and understanding for Dr. Robert. A celebration of Dr. Merritt’s life will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior.
