Newman, Merridy Evelyn – Age 98 of East Stewiacke, and formerly of Trenton, Ont., passed away February 24, 2018, in The Magnolia Continuing Care, Enfield. Born in East Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Blanche (Kelly) Morton.
Widowed at age 36, she was left to raise and support her young family, working at many jobs to do this. She was active in her community in Trenton, and was acknowledged for her 50-plus years of dedication for her work with Royal Canadian Legion Auxilliary Branch No. 110, Trenton. She was the last surviving member of a family of eleven.
She will always be loved and missed by daughters, Marilynn, Heather Seaman (Darrell Spencer); grandson, Shawn (Jara) Seaman; great-granddaughters, Rowan and Ione; many nieces and nephews; with a special thanks to nephew, Fred Morton. Besides her siblings, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
