It is with great sadness that the family of Melvin Benjamin Thorne, 72, of Lunenburg, announces his passing on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.
Born in Ramea; N.L., he was the son of the late Nathan (Sr.) and Florence Thorne.
Melvin started his seagoing career on the Lake boats and then continued a fishing career out of Lunenburg, on fishing and scallop draggers. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending time with family, hunting, fishing and clam digging and many will remember Melvin for his daily drives with his four-legged friend.
He was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, Lunenburg; daughter Tammy (David) Thorne-Fry; Front Centre, son, Todd (Katie) Thorne; Cannan, grandchildren, Ryan, James-Kelly, Paige, Jade, Sage, sisters, Sharon (Lester) Morrison; Martin’s River and Joanne (Garnett) Bezanson of Lunenburg; sister-in-law, Linda Warren, Blue Rocks and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Melvin was predeceased by his son, Kelly, brothers, Nathan Warren, Albert Warren, brother–in- law, Kenneth Purdy, and step-father, Nathan-Warren.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Melvin with his family during visitation on Wednesday from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg and where funeral service to celebrate Melvin’s life will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Alvin Westgate, officiating. Interment will be in Heckman’s Island Cemetery, Heckman’s Island.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations made to an education fund for his grand-daughters, Paige, Jade and Sage.
