Life Legacy
MARNO, Mary – Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and in the arms of her beloved daughter Anne, on Saturday February 17th, 2018 at the Meadows of Dorchester at 89 years of age, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Born April 13th, 1928 in Lennoxtown, Scotland in the midst of the gorgeous Campsie Hills to Thomas and Annie Leonard, the fourth of 12 children, Mary came to Canada with her sister Margaret in 1950. The two sisters were sent ahead of their parents and siblings to establish a home for the family to immigrate to. Both Mary and Margaret worked tirelessly to accomplish this, and after a few short years had a home ready for the family, who followed in 1953. During this time Mary met William John Marno and the two were married July 16, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Church. Mary and Bill went on to have three children Anne, Theresa, and William. Mary lived a full life; her greatest joy was raising her children and spending time with the rest of her family. Family was everything to Mary. Loving, kind, compassionate and faithful were the pillars of Mary’s life and character. Beloved wife of the late William Marno (2004). Loving and cherished mother of Anne and Herman Heikoop, Theresa and Fred Maiuri and the late William (2002) and Marisa Marno. Much loved and adored Granny of Chris and Katie Heikoop, Greg and Andrea Heikoop, Brandon and Chang Heikoop, Alicia and JeanBenoit Aubin, Laura Marno and Lisa Marno. Dearest Great Granny to Noah Heikoop, Charlotte Heikoop, Claire Heikoop, Elliot Heikoop, and Emma Heikoop (born February 8, 2018). Much Loved sister of Patricia Parks, Thomas Leonard, John Leonard and Dennis Leonard. Beloved sister-in-law of Frank Payne, Glen Marno, Charlotte Kudlac , Theresa Catherwood and Lakpatee Leonard. Mary is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Dearest friend to Sue McEachern, who walked this journey with Mom with such loving kindness throughout her disease right up until the day before she passed away. Predeceased by her sons Joseph (Stillborn) and William Thomas (2002), her sisters Elizabeth Convery, Helen McQueen, Margaret Payne, Catharine Graham, Nan Craven and brothers Eric Leonard and Charles Leonard, her sisters-in-laws June Leonard, Rose Jensen, Rene Leonard and brothers-in-law George Craven, Lewis Convery, Ross Graham, Tom McQueen, Charlie Marno, and Ted Kudlac. Mary was a long-time parishioner of St. Thomas More Church and long time member of the Catholic Women’s League, as well as volunteering for many years with Meals on Wheels. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. visiting Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Vigil prayers will be held at 4 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 am at St. Thomas More Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
