Honnige, Martin Manfred born October 4th, 1932 in Massenbach, Germany passed away peacefully in Airdrie on June 30th, 2018 following a brief but challenging battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his wife Marianne in 1992 and brother Herbert. He is also survived by numerous relatives in Germany to include his sister-in-law Irene (Martin), brother-in-law Peter (Gretel), brother-in-law Robert (Roswitha) and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Martin was known to be a hard worker all his life with a passion for gardening in his spare time. He enjoyed intellectual activities and contemplation of alternative theories. A source of pride was his health and physical fitness until his diagnosis in April. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 and spent time in Tulsequah prior to settling in Nanaimo for many years prior to his retirement. He moved to Calgary with his family in 2002 where he met Cora, whom he spent a wonderful life together with until he met his Creator.
The family would like to acknowledge the support of Palliative Home Care nurses in Airdrie and support of Dr. Gillian Ho who made it possible fulfill his final wish to pass away at home with his family.
Services will be held on July 14, 2018 at 1200 at St. Marks Cathedral, 5552 Madigan Drive NE, Calgary. Light refreshments to follow with tributes. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to a charity of your choice.
