We sadly share the news that Marjorie Lapointe, 90, of Ashcroft died December 5, 2018.
Marj was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Maurice Lowe and Esther Chesworth. She worked for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce on Portage and Main. She married her true love, Jack, in April 1949. Combining their honeymoon with a move to Vancouver she transferred and worked for CIBC until she began her family of four girls. They lived in the lower mainland for sixteen years before moving to the “house that Jack built” in Ashcroft where they spent the next 51 years together until Jack passed away. Marj continued to live independently in her home, tend her garden, drive her car, use her iPad and play cards right up until she died. Her fierce pride and strong encouragement of her family instilled a strong connection unbroken by distance or time.
She gave us the gift of tea to calm us down, the best pie crust ever, and a Vicks and hot water bottle cure for whatever ails us. Her progressive outlook and accepting, educated mind were an inspiration to her family, and we were lucky to have had such a special woman in our lives.
Marj is predeceased by her husband and best friend, Jack, her parents, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her four children; Jill Bewza (Gordy) of Chase, Judy Klassen (Ken) of Ashcroft, Joanne Gerein (Dale)of Ashcroft, and Janice Dobson (John) of Salmon Arm. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 18th, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Sage Hills church in Ashcroft. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. The Lapointe family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the nurses and doctors at Ashcroft hospital and Royal Inland hospital in Kamloops and the paramedics who took such good care of her.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Marjorie Marj Lowe Lapointe January 4 1928 December 5 2018 (age 90)..
