MARIAN YVONNE DODDS
On the morning of Thursday, December 20, 2018, Marian Yvonne (Strindlund) Dodds of Flin Flon, Manitoba passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Left to survive Marian are her husband Ronald; sons Thomas and Robert; and daughter Ronilyn. She was predeceased by her father Alex and Sadie (Payette) Strindlund, and infant twin brother Jean Baptiste.
Marian was born August 18, 1936 in Carman, Manitoba and raised in Island Falls, Saskatchewan. She left Island Falls to attend St. Mary’s Academy, Hapnot Collegiate, Glenlawn Collegiate, and finally Success Business College in 1953. Marian returned to “the north” and began her career with Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co. Ltd. and Churchill River Power Corporation.
In 1961 Marian married her husband Ronald and raised their three children in Flin Flon and Lynn Lake. After the second and final foray from life in Lynn Lake, she returned to employment with Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co. Ltd. and occupied various administrative and clerical positions between 1975-1985. A seasonal clerk position with the Flin Flon office of Natural Resources presented itself and after 25 years of service with the Province, Marian retired in 2011.
Marian would often recall her childhood while growing up in Island Falls. The lifelong friendships that she made there, and continued to maintain up until her passing, were important. Her youth was spent attending dances, golfing, and playing badminton. She later became involved in bowling and league bowled after retirement. Marian enjoyed all aspects of music and was a talented pianist. While in Lynn Lake she was active as a “Brownie Leader”. She had been a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Flin Flon since 1966 where she held a variety of offices, and actively involved in the First United Lutheran Church. Marian was an avid fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, no matter the outcome, often referring to the team as her “boys”. She enjoyed watching televised curling and tennis. She loved animals and welcomed them into the family home. Her annual flower garden was a great pleasure that she enjoyed and nurtured. She knitted hundreds of scarves throughout her life that were donated to a variety of charities and shelters. Marian was a member of the Métis Nation and proud of her ancestry from the area surrounding St. François Xavier.
Marian was devoted to her family and an ally of her children. In recent years she would travel to Winnipeg to spend time shopping, attending concerts, walking through Assiniboine Park, and visiting when her health permitted. She was fortunate to have good friends, good neighbours, and good coworkers.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the assistance and care our family received throughout this time. “You’re all good people!!”
