Margaret Mary Kelly 2018

Obituary Overview
Margaret Mary (Hartley) Kelly
Margaret Mary Kelly (Hartley) passed away late December 7th; peacefully and with her family at her side. Margaret was born in Dunville, NL to the late Edward and Eliza Hartley (Dray); the 2nd in a loving family of 12 children. She was married for 51 happy years to Patrick Kelly of Middle Cove, NL. Together, they had 3 children and 3 grandchildren. Margaret treasured her family and her loss is felt keenly by all who knew and loved her. Margaret’s childhood was filled with adventure. She spent many days trouting in the brook, sneaking Pa’s raspberries and climbing the Big Head. But most importantly, she was a devoted and loving caretaker to her younger siblings. We fondly recall Margaret’s brilliant smile, infectious laugh and sparkling wit. She loved music of all kinds; she played guitar, sang and danced beautifully. She was passionate about education and fostered a love of learning in so many children — not only in raising her own family but through the countless children she touched as a school teacher, first communion catechism teacher, educational consultant, aunt and friend. Margaret taught us to embrace all of life’s pleasures; one of her favourite delights was enjoying ice cream on Pat’s warm apple crisp with her granddaughter, Maggie. Margaret was a dedicated public servant and retired in 2013 from the Department of Public Works. Her leadership, enthusiasm and writing skills were highly prized by her colleagues. Margaret was a proud member of St John XXIII parish and a lifelong devotee of the Miraculous Medal. She had a deep and abiding faith and prayed regularly for the health and happiness of everyone she loved. Margaret is survived by her husband, Patrick; children, Christopher (Tina), Jill (Steve), Sally (Stan Tzogas); grandchildren, Maggie, Anna, Jack; siblings, Lucy Kelly (Tony), Gerard (Linda), Joan Kehoe, Dermot (Sharon), James, Ronald (Terry), Betty Jones (Jim), Helen (Gilles), Tom (Hermance), Kevin (Debbie); aunt, Theresa Dray; sisters-in-law, Jean, Barb, Patricia, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Margaret will also be sadly missed by Patrick’s family and by Shekeisha and Zion Pellow. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward and brother-in-law, John Kehoe. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm Monday, December 10 and 2-4 and 7-9pm Tuesday, December 11 in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. A funeral mass will be held at 10am Wednesday, December 12 at Saint John XXIII Parish, 35 Colby Drive, Dartmouth. Fr. Irek Bem will officiate; a reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society (www.ssvp.ca). The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Jennifer Leighton and the wonderful nursing staff of 3 East Dartmouth General Hospital.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Margaret Mary Kelly 2018..
