OBITUARY
Mamie Delia Reeves
29 October , 1935 – 27 May , 2018
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mame Reeves, on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the age of 82.
Mame was born in the tiny metropolis of Melfort, Saskatchewan and spent her very early years in the rural farming community of Mistatim. She graduated with honours from Nipawin Composite High School.
She married her high school sweetheart Bud Schroeder and raised a family in very remote communities in Canada’s north. She was an early pioneer in balancing family life and a career. The family moved to Port Alberni in 1971.
Mame loved to entertain, and was always the first to volunteer as hostess for wedding or baby showers, retirement parties and good old sing-alongs. She was never happier than when surrounded by family and friends. She had a passion for the game of bridge, belonging to two bridge clubs. She played with one group of friends for over forty years and never declined an invitation to sub in others.
She married her soulmate Johnnie in 1990, and together, they traveled the world. She was very grateful for their grand adventures. They explored destinations as far-flung as Hawaii, Panama, Scotland, and Hungary. While crisscrossing North America, she gamely drove a large RV through downtown Boston, an event the locals still talk about.
She had a lifetime of achievements too numerous to be contained in a simple obituary; straight A student, career woman, political organizer, travel agent, receiver of dignitaries, talented painter, newspaper publisher, tireless fundraiser.
Predeceased by her loving husband Johnnie Reeves; Mame is survived by her children Kim (Judy), Lynne (Bruce), and Richard; grandchildren Paul, Carrera (Cody), Jenna (Christopher), Myles, Spencer, James, Jessica, and Avalon (Matt); and great-grandchildren Odin and Lucy.
A tea reception will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Chapel of Memories, 4005 6th Avenue, Port Alberni, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mame’s memory to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca
